WHY WE DO

what we do

Have you ever had the feeling you were in exactly the spot you were supposed to be? At Something Different Counseling LLC, my clients and I experience those moments every day. Counseling is an intimate, crazy, sacred experience shared between individuals who happen to have crossed paths at this exact spot in their journeys. For a relatively brief time (compared to the span of a life), there is a deep, therapeutic relationship that would not happen at any other moment in their stories.

The healing and change that is possible for a human being, any human being, is just extremely cool. To be able to make a career out of helping people change their lives? To me, there isn’t anything better.

MY SPACE IS DESIGNED TO BE A LOW-KEY, COMFORTABLE ENVIRONMENT WHERE YOU CAN FEEL SECURE LETTING YOUR

GUARD DOWN AND TACKLING BIG ISSUES.

I LIKE COLOR. I'VE ACTUALLY READ THE BOOKS ON THE

SHELVES. MY BLANKETS ARE COZY.

come on in.

There are a lot of counselors to choose from. You may have even been to a few (or more than a few) of them over the years. Counseling, like any skilled service, has many styles and approaches to choose from. Sometimes, you can be sincerely seeking help and just unfortunately not be a great fit with the help you found. You’re left disappointed, having spent money and time on something that did not provide the relief you’re so desperately searching for.

At my practice, I aim to be...well...something different.

My experience dealing with really difficult issues and unique areas of work, my range of specialties, and flexibility of schedule and therapy approaches all combine to make Something Different Counseling LLC the kind of comfortable, authentic, and meaningful fit you’ve been looking for. I work to foster a real, safe relationship in which you can share and work on some of the heavy things you’ve been carrying around.

There is no judgement here, just real help.

JACI SMITHEE

licensed professional counselor | nationally certified counselor

Counseling is a pretty scary idea. Often, the clients that I work with have not experienced a safe relationship in a long time. The idea of sitting in a room and sharing your life story with someone seems like a recipe for betrayal and pain. At some point, though, the need for healing outweighs that risk and you choose to start working towards wellness. It is an uncomfortable, heavy, and ultimately extremely rewarding journey. I'm ready to get started with you.

I have specialized experience working with individuals and couples struggling with trauma, grief and loss, personality disorders, relationship struggles, co-dependency, and addictions. I have training in EMDR and DBT. And really, it’s ok if you didn’t see yourself in that list of issues, I am happy to work with anyone who sees a benefit in what I have to offer and I am always up for learning new things.

I have a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Addiction Studies and a Master of Arts in Counseling from Boise State University. I have worked as a clinical director of a substance treatment facility, helped develop and start trauma-focused substance treatment tracks, and worked for years developing specialized knowledge and competency working with individuals who are hurting. I am licensed in the state of Idaho to practice counseling and am nationally board certified.

I love to paint, write, and do a lot of mixed media crafting/creating. I collect pink elephants. I play tons of video games until way too late at night. I love horror movies, great food, and being a mom.
